Abiding in God's Goodness
This summer, we’re focusing on God’s goodness and presence with us. Life can be noisy and distracting, but when we slow down and pay attention, there are signs of God’s goodness all around us. We can see them in the beauty of nature, the unique gifts and passions of others, in moments of connection and healing, and in countless other places.
When we learn to be attentive to God’s goodness, it changes us. It shapes how we see, how we live, and how we relate to one another. To help cultivate attentiveness to God’s goodness this summer, we’re inviting you to join us in three daily practices:
Summer Practice #1 - The 12:00 Pause
Set a daily reminder on your phone or watch for 12:00 p.m. When it goes off, take a moment to pause and practice some goodness spotting. How have you seen God’s goodness so far today? What small signs of God’s presence do you notice in what you see, smell, hear, or feel – right where you are? Take a few deep breaths, and express your gratitude to God.
And remember – you’re not doing this alone! Others in our church community are pausing too, looking for signs of God’s goodness throughout their day. Why not text a friend during the week or share what you noticed when you catch up with someone on Sunday? Let’s encourage each other by naming and celebrating God’s goodness together!
Summer Practice #2 - End-of-Day Reflection
As each day draws to a close, take a few quiet moments to pause, reflect, and journal about ways you noticed and experienced God’s goodness during the day. The following questions will guide your reflection:
- Where did I notice God’s goodness today?
- Am I able to notice evidence of His goodness now that I may have missed earlier in the day?
- How is God inviting me to move forward?
In the booklet attached below, you’ll find these daily reflection prompts, along with space to journal each day.
Summer Practice #3 - Scripture Meditation
Each day in the spiritual practice guide includes a short Bible verse for reflection and meditation. Carry it with you and let it be a reminder of God’s goodness as you go about your day.
